So many people are starting to recoil from Newt Gingrich's effort to rise Dracula-like from his crypt, but why?

Is it his history-making censure as Speaker, the first time in U.S. history that the House took such a step against their own leader, after he violated tax laws and lied to investigators?

Is it the laughable gap between his pretension to be the philosophical heir of Churchill, Reagan and (weirdest of all) Thatcher...and his sadly mediocre mind, which is capable only of schlocky ghostwritten novellas, and the kind of unoriginal, uninspired Obama-bashing that any internet loon with a fifth-grade education could manage?

Is it his scorched-earth partisan tactics in the 1990s, to include shutting down the federal government, which, he implied, was because the Clinton staff snubbed him on Air Force One?

Is it the prospect of handing the leadership of a party desperate for fresh new ideas, over to a guy who will be 69 in 2012 and 73 in 2016, and who never had any original ideas even when he was young?

Is it his incessant efforts to appeal to everything that is small-minded, mean-spirited and jsut plain stupid in the American psyche?

“Look, I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it. I think that it is a very dangerous threat to anybody who believes in traditional religion. And I think if you believe in historic Christianity, you have to confront the fact. And, frank -- for that matter, if you believe in the historic version of Islam or the historic version of Judaism, you have to confront the reality that these secular extremists are determined to impose on you acceptance of a series of values that are antithetical, they're the opposite, of what you're taught in Sunday school.”

Well, for me it was the Kos report above that finally made my eyes roll around in the O.M.F.G. 360.

Newt and the rightwing loons have been screeching about Obama shaking hands with Chavez, whereupon the people who do have brains pointed out that Nixon and Reagan shook hands with the Soviets; Nixon also went to China a whole lotta hands, and Reagan made a deal to pay ransom to the Iranians and then lied about it.

So now we go to Atlantic City for the National Hairsplitting Convention, where Newt Gingrich is screaming "oh, yeah, the Republicans shook hands, but they didn't smile!!!!"

Which is, of course, bullcrap. Even Nixon with his cadaverous Ed-Sullivan jowls smiled at the Bad Guys.

So, like the Tea-Party morons, Newt is bashing Obama for doing the same thing Republicans did.

Waah waah waah.

So I ask again: how low does a political have to sink, before they consider Newt Freakin' Gingrich to be an Elder Statesman?
